Customer benefits
Organizations documenting business processes, building quality systems and optimizing the way they work are facing a number of challenges. Examples of challenges to consider are
- Create and maintain consistent process descriptions
- Make process descriptions easy available for process users
- Manage compliance against standards and models
Callis Author are designed to handle these challenges and minimize the associated effort and burden.
Please have a look at these slides to get an overview of the challenges and how they are effectively solved in Callis Author and Performer.
| Produce high-quality process descriptions |
Predefined description elements ensures easy-to-understand process structure and takes away time consuming debates about how to document and structure process descriptions. Integrity checks ensures consistent process descriptions. Symbolic references between process description entities ensures no broken links. |
|---|---|
| Achieve higher accessibility |
Multiple, consistent views of the processes are generated automatically. Examples of views are: workflows, disciplines, roles and type of elements. Pictures are integrated to process descriptions. A complete and fully index is generated to quickly search and find process description elements. |
| Achieve higher productivity when writing processes |
Standard description elements guides process writers. Trivial, but time consuming activities regarding formating and layout are minimized, more time can be spend on process content. Focus on process structure and description instead of spending time resolving broken links and/or non-existing descriptions spread across multiple documents. Simply use drag'n'drop functionaly when creating references. Easily integrate and enable existing process diagrams from e.g. MS Visio. Just change the name or description of an element and all references, trees and overview tables, tool tips, etc are consistently updated to reflect the changes. |
| Minimize cost of having multiple process output formats |
The following output formats are generated:
Using these output format options, consistent process descriptions can be provided to employees with no access to company intranet, to external auditors or to business partners, customers or subcontractors who should follow or know your processes. Just ship the processes on a memory stick or dvd |
| Manage compliance with standards and models |
Callis Author is knows the structure of various standards and models e.g. ISO 9001:2008 and CMMI. When writing the process, elements in the process description can be mapped to specific requirements in the standards. This mapping between the organizational process and various international standards provides for automatically generating compliance reports that will give external auditors a quick and consistent overview of the organizational process in relation to a specific standard. Artifact mappings can also be maintained, and used to generate process implementation indicator templates (PIIDs). |
| Generate multiple processes with shared process components |
In some cases, different processes are needed across the organization, e.g. based on project size, type, domain and technology. Callis Author handles this with the concept of packages. Organizational standard processes can be created by assembling project specific packages and packages with common process elements to a new standard process. |
| Open data format |
Process descriptions are available in XML format and can easily be exported from Callis Author. This ensures that the effort used when documenting the processes are not lost if the company chooses another process writing tool. |
